About Us

Hello, and welcome to the online home of the Kiwi branch of the Oerder clan!

Our family has very itchy feet, so we’re scattered around the world. Originally from Holland, Frans Oerder first emigrated to South Africa in 1890. In 2002 we left the dusty grasslands of Africa and moved on to the long white cloud of New Zealand. For those who wonder about that description of New Zealand, you’ve obviously never been here! 🙂 The other name for New Zealand is Aotearoa which means “The land of the long white cloud.” and quite aptly describes why the hills are such deep green rolling hills covered in long grass and dense ferns.

As you might have guessed from this website, Sheri and I are both very into I.T. Sheri is in Project Management while I specialize in cloud delivered services.

Meet Taz, our miniature Schnauzer, named after the cartoon character, Taz the Tasmanian Devil. This name turned out to be very appropriate!
Our Taz is also very noisy, hyperactive and smelly, especially after a day at the beach digging in the seaweed!

Frans Oerder, the Artist

Frans Oerder (7th April 1867 – 15th July 1944) was a popular artist in South Africa, starting his art career as a painter documenting the Anglo Boer War before moving on to portrait painting. He was especially fond of Magnolias. Frans’ paintings have been made into prints and stamps. The originals are mostly in the public galleries of South Africa.
